WATERTOWN, NY (WWNY) – Two businesses and hundreds of jobs are about to come to the area.
In a special meeting Thursday, the Jefferson County Industrial Development Agency approved resolutions beginning the process to bring Convalt Energy and DigiCollect to the region.
The two solar-related companies plan to build manufacturing facilities at the Watertown Airport Business Park.
Convalt expects to employ 525 people within 5 years and DigiCollect intends to hire 1,535 people over the same period.
JCIDA chief executive Dave Zembiec said his group’s actions on Thursday are helping to lay the groundwork for the plan.
“Basically what it does now sets the stage. We will move forward to work out a legal land development agreement, outlining the business requirements, get all permits in place, get all approvals in place to start construction to make sure they have all the planning in place to start construction, put a shovel in the ground, before handing the property over to them, ”he said.
JCIDA has also taken a further step towards a definitive agreement on loan terms with the two companies.
With the help of partner agencies, the group plans to create a loan package of more than $ 1.25 million for the two companies.
