Alfredo Morelos: Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s hopeful striker will accept new deal | Soccer News

Giovanni van Bronckhorst insists Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is ‘very positive’ about signing a new contract at Ibrox.

The 26-year-old Colombia international is in the final year of his current contract and there has been attention from clubs across Europe, although no official offers have been made.

Van Bronckhorst hopes Morelos will commit his future to the club he joined in 2017.

“Alfredo is very positive about a new contract. We are doing our best to secure a new deal with Morelos and hopefully this will be sorted out in the coming weeks,” the Rangers boss said. Sky Sports News.

Alfredo Morelos is in the final 12 months of his contract with Rangers

“He’s getting more and more lively. We’re watching his development over the next couple of weeks. When he’s fit, he’s an option for me. Up front too, we all know his qualities. I would prefer him come back. He worked very hard.”

Morelos has been out of action since April after undergoing surgery for a thigh injury sustained during his international duty with Colombia.

He took part in Rangers’ open training day at Ibrox on Monday, taking part in ball drills on the Ibrox pitch during the special session for supporters.

With Kemar Roofe also struggling for fitness, Van Bronckhorst turned to new signing Antonio Colak, who started both friendlies against Spurs and West Ham.

Kris Boyd believes his former club Rangers are in a strong position and need not be forced to sell striker Alfredo Morelos this summer.

Kris Boyd insists Rangers are in a strong position with Alfredo Morelos, insisting there is no need to be pressured into letting the striker go.

“It’s been every transfer window since he arrived that he’s basically going to leave.

“There will be a day when he does.

“At the moment I think Rangers are in a good position. It’s not a deal they need to sell. There is room to go and negotiate with the teams.

“I’ve said it before, every player has a price. If anyone wants to reach that valuation, I’m sure Rangers will talk about it.

“As things stand, he’s a Rangers player.”
