Arsenal full-back who ‘never lets you down’ as Hector Bellerin impresses in Betis home debut

Here is your digest of the Arsenal evening on Sunday, September 19.

Bellerin impresses on home debut

After 10 years at Arsenal, Hector Bellerin returned to his native Spain and joined Betis during the summer transfer window.

And the move meant that at the age of 26, the full-back finally took a liking to La Liga football as he made his debut for his new club in their 2-1 win in Granada on Monday.

He then bowed out at home on Sunday afternoon when Betis hosted Espanyol at the Benito Villamarin stadium.

And Bellerin showed great determination in the final third to keep an attack alive and place the ball through Nabil Fekir’s cross to give the hosts the advantage in added time for the first half.

Arteta ‘instills a backbone’ by his side

Kieran Tierney and Aaron Ramsdale had some sort of mini-feud in the second half of Burnley’s win on Saturday.

The two players fought over who should have cleared the ball from a cross.

And Football London’s Bailey Keogh says it shows coach Mikel Arteta is finally instilling a spine by his side.

He writes: “It’s a passion for defenders that Arsenal fans are not used to and it’s a refreshing sight for us considering how weak the defense the club have been used to in recent years.”

Tierney “never let you down”

Arsenal legend Paul Merson has praised full-back Kieran Tierney after his last stellar performance.

Tierney has been one of Arsenal’s most consistent performers since signing for £ 25million from Celtic in 2019.

And Merson joined former Spurs manager Jose Mourinho in praising the tough defender’s reliability after helping to keep a clean sheet as Mikel Arteta’s side beat Burnley 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

“Tierney never lets you down,” Merson told Sky Sports News after the full-time whistle blows.
