Chelsea in Jules Kounde talks | Thomas Tuchel expects Armando Broja to remain in West Ham’s interest | Soccer News

Chelsea are continuing talks with Sevilla over a deal for defender Jules Kounde.

However, reports elsewhere suggesting a full deal are premature at this stage.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel wants another centre-back this summer after signing Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli for £33m on Saturday.

Tuchel has been an admirer of Koundé for some time, having also been linked with the player during last summer’s transfer window.

The German has reignited his interest after missing out on Nathan Ake, who looks likely to stay at Man City.

Koundé would be the second defensive arrival at Chelsea

Chelsea signed Raheem Sterling and Koulibaly in the summer, but Tuchel is keen to add another centre-back to his squad after losing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen in the summer.

Chelsea were also interested in Matias De Ligt, who joined Bayern Munich for £68million.

Ahead of the pre-season friendly against Arsenal this weekend on the second leg of their US tour, Tuchel said: “We need a few more to improve the squad.

Thomas Tuchel has listed the many qualities of Chelsea’s ‘brilliant signing’ Kalidou Koulibaly.

“We finished third last season – there was a gap. If you want to keep your position, you have to improve. You can never stand still. Other teams will overtake you. We have lost players.

“It’s common sense. It’s every manager’s dream to find players from their own league who can adapt so easily. Raheem knows the habits of English clubs and has English team-mates here.

“Kalidou (Koulibaly) knows Mendy from the national team and Jorginho was a big help from Napoli to speed up the integration process. They are huge players for us. We have to speed things up.”

Tuchel: I don’t expect Broja to leave on loan

With West Ham in advanced talks with Chelsea’s Armando Broja, take a look at all his goals from his season on loan with Southampton.

Tuchel also played down talk that Armando Broja is set to leave the club on loan this summer.

Broja excelled during a loan spell last season at Southampton but it looks like he will be part of Tuchel’s plans this season.

“I don’t expect him to leave,” Tuchel continued. “I am aware of the offers and the interest. We will make a decision together, the owner, me and the player. When he arrived it was clear that he was trying to impress and become a Chelsea player.

“After his loan spell at Southampton, it’s clear he wants to take the next step. Unfortunately, he got injured and there’s a lot of interest now. Let’s see how it goes. He has a contract here.

“We have a lot of options but not Armando’s type. Last season with him and Conor Gallagher we always have to weigh what is good for them and for the club. Is there a prospect that he get minutes here.

“He has already played in the Premier League. With Armando, we have to look at the situation very carefully and individually and decide if we have the minutes that we can offer so that he can grow here or give him another loan to give him minutes. of game.”

Why is Broja requested?

Broja’s greatest strengths lie in areas that often go unnoticed. He excels at regaining possession in the final third, winning aerial jumps and running with the ball at his feet.

In fact, only five players picked up more possession in attacking areas last season – despite the Albanian starting just 21 league games.

As well as being among the league’s elite players for forward pressing, he also ranks in the top 10 for fast breaks.

Despite his limited playing time, the 20-year-old registered 112 touches in the opposition box – thanks to skillful movement, creating space and carrying the ball into dangerous areas.

Going deeper into his comebacks in a brief professional career to date, the youngster has scored 20 goals in just 48 starts in all competitions – an impressive strike rate, considering he’s also been clinched 35 times.
