‘I love him’ – Jamie Carragher praises the unsung hero who characterizes the West Ham season

Jamie Carragher has named Vladimir Coufal as his Premier League side’s right-back of the season – and the ex-Liverpool player has praised the Hammer.

Coufal signed for West Ham in October 2020 and has only missed one Premier League game since arriving in England.

The 28-year-old has made 34 league appearances for the Hammers and contributed seven assists, second only to Aaron Cresswell for the Hammers.

Among the eight Sky Sports experts to have named their team of the year, only Gary Neville and Paul Merson did not select Coufal.

Alongside Carragher, all of Jamie Redknapp, Don Goodman, Sue Smith, Alan Smith and Andy Hinchliffe have named the Czech international as the Premier League‘s best right-back this season.

Forner England defender Carragher praised Coufal.

“At the right back, I went to get Vladimir Coufal, I love him,” he said. “He’s playing week after week, has been brilliant and characterizes the West Ham season.”

Coufal only cost the Hammers £ 5.4million at the end of last summer’s transfer window from Slavia Prague and has proven to be excellent value for money.

In addition to his excellent comeback from seven assists, the full-back is second behind Trent Alexander-Arnold when it comes to the odds created by the right-back in the league.

Coufal has given his teammates 39 scoring chances against the Englishman’s 75 this season, and the Czech topped the list of successful tackles with 64, ten more than his closest rival Alexander-Arnold.

The 28-year-old’s beautiful form has been recognized internationally, Coufal being called up to the Czech Republic squad for the next European Championships.

The defender could face two fellow Hammers Jesse Lingard and Declan Rice when the Czech Republic takes on England at Wembley on June 22.
