Jack Wilshere: Former Arsenal midfielder focused on return to play, not training | Football news

Jack Wilshere dismissed reports that he was ready to end his playing career, insisting he still had something to prove and a lot to give.

The 29-year-old is a free agent who was released by Bournemouth at the end of last season and is currently training with former club Arsenal.

Although he has helped academy chief Per Mertesacker over the past month, Wilshere has played down any suggestions that he is ready to retire.

“Right now I’m doing my coach badges and the club is helping me with them and I’m also helping some of the kids in the Academy,” Wilshere said. Sky Sports News.

“It’s definitely something I enjoy and maybe something to consider in the future, but for now I still want to play.

“I feel like I still have a lot to give and something to prove, which is why I don’t want to stop playing now and start a coaching career right away.

Wilshere, selected 34 times for England, became Arsenal’s youngest debutant at the age of 16 and made 198 appearances for the club before leaving after injuries severely hampered his career.

Returning to training at the club, Wilshere added: “It’s nice to see some old faces that I have spent a lot of my life with.

“From a fitness point of view, I’m getting there and it’s great to train again with good players and the quality will only be good for me in the future.

“I am here [at Arsenal] until January and there is no news on any club, but hopefully something will happen then. “

Wilshere also spent time in Como in Serie B this summer, but was unable to sign a permanent deal due to EU restrictions.
