Manuel Locatelli: Arsenal ‘ahead’ in race to sign Sassuolo midfielder, says Serie A club’s sporting director | Football news

Arsenal are “ahead” in the race to sign Manuel Locatelli from Sassuolo and have made a “concrete offer” for the Italian midfielder, according to the Serie A club’s sporting director.

The 23-year-old impressed at Euro 2020 for the Azzurri, scoring two goals in the 3-0 group stage win over Switzerland, and is set to pass this summer.

Sassuolo’s sporting director Giovanni Carnevali has confirmed that talks are continuing with Serie A rivals Juventus, but that Arsenal are the main contender outside Italy.

“Juventus are the only Italian club we have spoken to about Locatelli,” Carnevali told Sky in Italy. “We met (Juventus sporting director Federico) Cherubini last week.

Locatelli made 36 appearances for Sassuolo last season

“There is interest on their part, we have not explored all the terms and valuations, but we have a great relationship with Juventus, so we will continue these discussions.

“It is true that other foreign clubs are interested, Arsenal is one of them and they are ahead of everyone because they have submitted the only concrete offer we have received so far.”

Arsenal have yet to sign this summer but have been linked with moves for Brighton center-back Ben White and Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares.
