NEW ITV host Meridian has been announced following the retirement of Fred Dinenage.
Matt Teale, who is the presenter of ITV Central, announced today that he will take on a new role with ITV Meridian, alongside current presenter Sangeeta Bhabra.
The 46-year-old will begin his new role from late January, taking over from longtime presenter Fred Dinenage, who hosted the regional news show for nearly 40 years.
Matt, who is from Gloucestershire, has worked for ITV since 1997 in the East and West Midlands.
He has also worked with Forces News, which provides military news, as well as Sky News.
He said today: “Really delighted to be joining the ITV Meridian team as the main presenter alongside Sangeeta Bhabra from the end of January.
“I am delighted to be leaving ITV Central and Forces News after such a long time, but it seems like the perfect time to take on new challenges. ”
Last week, current lead presenter Fred Dinenage said upon his retirement that it had been a “difficult decision” to make.
He said: “After nearly 38 years co-hosting ITV’s six-hour show in the South and Southeast, I finally decided to hang up my microphone.
“It was a very difficult decision, but now I want to spend a few years with my wife, Beverley, and our three dogs smelling the roses in my garden and spending time in the Austrian mountains.
“But now, I think it’s a good time to move on. My dear co-host, Sangeeta, and my colleagues at ITV Meridian will miss me terribly. And, of course, our wonderful viewers who have been watching me. have given such amazing love and support for so long.
“I have been so fortunate in my life and career – fifty-eight years continuously working on regional and network programs with ITV and have been fortunate to have a truly special family. So everyone – thank you. ”
