“Small ax”, “I can destroy you” at the Bafta Craft Awards | New


Steve mcqueen Small ax and Michaela Coel’s I can destroy you were the big winners of the Bafta Craft Awards, taking home eight of the 21 awards between them.

Small ax, the BBC1 dramatic anthology on the life of West Indian immigrants in the 60s, 70s and 80s in London, claimed five gongs including: JoJo Williams for makeup and hairstyling; Jacqueline Durran for costume design; Helen Scott for production design; Shabier Kirchner for photography and lighting: fiction and Gary Davy for the scripted cast.

Coel’s BBC1 / HBO real-life-inspired dramatic comedy about an author rebuilding her life after sexual assault won three awards, including the writing category: Drama for Coel and Director: Fiction for Coel and Sam Miller. I can destroy youThe editing team won the editing award: fiction.

BBC programming accounted for 16 of the winners, with Its dark materials receiving two awards in the field of sound: fiction and special effects, visuals and graphics. The Sky and Netflix shows won two awards each, while ITV took one.

The ceremony, broadcast on Bafta’s YouTube and Facebook channels, was hosted by Famalam star Gbemisola Ikumelo, co-written by Ikumelo and Akemnji Ndifornyen, and guest presenters including Annie Wallace, Ellen Thomas, Nathaniel Martello-White, Tony Robinson, Max Harwood and Mawaan Rizwan.
