Unai Emery: Newcastle consider approaching Villarreal boss to replace Steve Bruce | Football news

Unai Emery is under serious consideration for the vacant management post at Newcastle United.

The Villarreal manager said on Monday he knew nothing of Newcastle’s interest.

However, in private it is believed that while Emery is happy at Villarreal, he would be open to hearing what Newcastle has to say.

There is a feeling the 49-year-old has unfinished business in the Premier League since he was sacked by Arsenal in 2019.

Newcastle want to have a manager in place by the weekend, before their game at Brighton.

A source close to former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca said Sky Sports News that, as things stand, the Portuguese are unlikely to be named Steve Bruce’s successors.

Lucien Favre, Eddie Howe and Roberto Martinez are other candidates in which Newcastle remain interested.
